What’s your word?

We talked a couple of weeks ago about renewing our minds by associating certain everyday words with scriptural background. We looked at the word finished and the fact that it was one of the last words spoken by Christ before His death which points us toward the cross and Christ’s love for us. I use the word finished a lot, I finish things all the time, why not be reminded of His sacrifice and love for me. So what’s your word make a post here and let us know…

    “Jesus WEPT.”

After I heard the first message and the word FINISHED, I started to think about some other words that are commonly used that relate to a Bible story. Growing up this was just an easy verse to recite, but it didn’t mean too much.

One of the definitions for this word, ‘weep’, is:
“to express grief, sorrow, or any overpowering emotion by shedding tears”

I know we don’t often use the word “weep/wept” much today, but one could also think of it when the word “cry” is used.

The point of the post…why is this so important?
    John 11 tells the story.

Jesus waited to answer the call that people had given Him. Instead of acting right away, He stayed, not trying to please people, but to obey God so that glory may be given Him.

Martha does question Jesus’s actions, but does show she trusts what He says and believes He can save.

Mary also questions Jesus’s motives and timeliness, but honors Him in her actions regardless.

“He was deeply moved in spirit and troubled. (11:33b)” Even though Jesus was following what His Father had instructed, it did not make it any less difficult to see others hurting or feel moved by everything going on. He knew the outcome, Lazarus would live, but in that moment, there were people that He loved that were in despair.

He took time to live in that moment, He wept….He did not tell everyone to stop crying and get over it because Lazarus was going to live, no, He wept, He felt pain right along side them.

If my Jesus wept because others were hurting, then how much more should I be kind, understanding and warm-hearted to those hurting in my life…
